The Flowers

Our wedding planner set up a meeting with a local florist for us on Friday. She was great and was incredibly knowledgeable about all things floral and plant like.  We also learned that one of our favorite plants that we want to have a lot of at our wedding is called Pampas Grass.  We're planning on having Billy Balls, Green Button Mums, and Blue Cornflowers.

Girly Wedding Item Posts

I figured I would leave this blog mostly to actual events, decisions, and happenings relating to moving and the wedding.  So I've been posting my adventures in looking around the internet for girly wedding items on my personal blog, My Mojito and I have Global Influence. So here's the links to a couple I just posted;

Our First Seattle Scouting Trip

While we didn't find our new home yet, we did get a better sense of the areas we want to live in. Fremont and Phinney Ridge are at the top with Wallingford and North Ballard coming in next.

We looked at 3 places and were interested in two of them, but not for a long term rental. One had an amazing view....

We also did some scouting on good GF/DF places to eat out. We went to Cafe Flora, Blue C Sushi, and the Flying Apron Bakery.

Quick Update

We're taking off for Seattle tomorrow to start apartment/house hunting and we have a couple of places lined up to look at.  We're all going to try and just walk around the areas that we like and look for the "For Rent" signs.

My dress is in the works and the dress process for my lovely bridesmaids (more to come on them later!) is ready to get started as well!

We also made the big decision to hire a wedding planner!  Which should make this a whole lot easier and less stressful for us!  We'll have to introduce you all to her in a later post!

As always...more to come!

The Rings

Another thing down!

Yesterday we went up to Brilliant Earth in San Francisco to officially pick out our wedding rings. We did some custom changes and and adjustments but these are the rings that we based ours off of;

Since we didn't have all the dollars on hand to purchase the rings outright, we put down a certain amount we had saved and then put them on lay away for 6 months since we don't need them any time soon.

After BE we walked around the downtown area a bit and then met our friends at Betelnut, a great restaurant in SF that has a yummy gluten free menu that actually changes!

The Dress

Right from the start, I knew I didn't want a traditional dress and I actually wasn't so sure I even wanted a white or ivory dress. I also wanted something that I could wear again and possibly (Gasp!) dye a different color to get more use out of. So, if there is one thing in wedding planning that makes me feel the most anti-bride it has to be the whole dress thing.

All that being said, after tearing apart probably 10 wedding magazines and hating every single dress I saw, I decided that I would not go dress shopping.  Instead, I am going to have my dress custom made by Amanda Archer. I found her store on Etsy sometime early last year and became obsessed with the Pleated Collar Dress which I (still) desperately want in Midnight Blue. That dress will also actually be the basis for the bridesmaids dresses which will be in either midnight blue or moss green and might be customized further if my lovely bridesmaids so choose!

It took me a while to come up with an idea of what I wanted but I've narrowed it down.  One thing that really helped me was to think about our wedding and what I visualized the day to be like.  Songs like the The Twist and Do You Love Me kept popping into my head like the background soundtrack.  That told me that I wanted something I could really dance in and twirl in.

After I e-mailed probably too many pictures and too many descriptive words that didn't make sense together, Amanda was able to put what I wanted into a first rough sketch of my dress, and here it is;

A couple of things will be a little different than the sketch, for example the upper part of the back will match the front scoop neck.  The dress will will be primarily a cream color with that middle scrunched part being midnight blue. And like it says on the picture there will be a layer of tulle that peaks out on the bottom.

So tomorrow I am going to get my measurements professionally done at The Tailor Maid at Stanford Shopping Center.  I've had a lot of my clothes tailored there before and even though its quite a drive from Capitola, I want to go somewhere that I trust.

P.S. My dress will have pockets...awesome.

Since Our Last Update...

We've been to Tahoe. Just for fun. Too bad there wasn't more snow.

We've been to Austin, Texas for Cara and Mike's wedding reception. Cara was my roommate for three years of college and she and Mike started dating only about a month after Zeke and I. We are so so so happy for them :-).

We've also made some decent progress on planning the wedding. As soon as we sort a couple more things out, we will update you all on those things. We're planning on doing some little features on the blog about all these different things. Right now, we are working on securing a caterer and a day of coordinator. We are also planning on going up to Brilliant Earth in San Francisco soon to pick out the stones for my ring and to order our rings.
